Barcelona’s only all-year ice rink is not at a ski resort or a mall but next to a university sports ground, run by FC Barcelona. Ice skating in Barcelona means one permanent rink and four seasonal ones that open from late November to early January, and only two of the five have real ice. The FC Barcelona ice rink charges from €13 with skates; at Christmas, Westfield La Maquinista adds a natural-ice rink at €12 for 30 minutes. Christmas at Port Vell, L’Illa Diagonal and the Tibidabo Amusement Park run synthetic or sustainable rinks with sessions of 12 to 25 minutes.
Where can you go ice skating in Barcelona? All year, at the FC Barcelona ice rink in Les Corts, from €13 with skates. At Christmas, also at Westfield La Maquinista, the largest natural-ice rink in the city, at €12 for 30 minutes; L’Illa Diagonal at €8; Port Vell at €8.50 for 12 minutes; and Tibidabo at €5.
Which rink suits your trip
Pick by what you want from the session, not by the ticket price:
- You want proper skating: the FC Barcelona rink, real ice and slots of 75 minutes or more.
- You are here at Christmas and want real ice: Westfield La Maquinista, 30-minute sessions.
- You are already in the centre for the markets: Port Vell, a short spin on Moll de la Fusta.
- You want a view: Tibidabo, on the hill above the city.
- You want a longer session for less: L’Illa Diagonal, about 25 minutes for €8.
| Rink | Best for | Per 10 minutes | Last season | Getting there |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| FC Barcelona ice rink | Real ice, any month | €1.73 | All year | Zona Universitària (L3, L9 Sud) or Ernest Lluch (L5) metro |
| Westfield La Maquinista | Real ice at Christmas | €4.00 | 27 November to 6 January | Torras i Bages metro (L1), 633 m |
| L’Illa Diagonal | Long session, low price | €3.20 | 29 November to 11 January | Les Corts metro (L3), 678 m |
| Christmas at Port Vell | A spin during the markets | €7.08 | 28 November to 6 January | Drassanes metro (L3), 449 m |
| Tibidabo Amusement Park | Views over the city | €3.33 to €5.00 | 29 November to 5 January | Cuca de Llum funicular |
What a session really costs
Ticket prices hide very different session lengths, so the fair comparison is the cost of each 10 minutes on the ice.
The FC Barcelona rink works out at €1.73 per 10 minutes on a 75-minute slot. L’Illa Diagonal comes to €3.20, La Maquinista to €4.00 and Tibidabo to between €3.33 and €5.00. Port Vell, at €8.50 for 12 minutes, is €7.08 per 10 minutes: four times the price of the club rink.
The FC Barcelona rink, open all year
The club’s rink sits at Carrer de Carles Ferrer i Salat 7, in the Esports UB grounds in Les Corts, and holds up to 400 skaters. Tickets start at €13 with skates or €10 with your own, and extras such as a helmet, gloves or a skating aid start at €1.50. Book online, because slots can change when the club’s own teams need the ice.
Public slots last season ran on weekday mornings from 9:30 to 11:30 and 12:00 to 2 pm; at midday on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 2:30 to 4 pm; on Friday from 4 to 5:30 pm and 6 to 7:30 pm; and on weekends from 10 am to noon, 12:30 to 2 pm, 5 to 6:15 pm and 6:45 to 8 pm. There is no visitor parking, so come by metro or tram. If you are visiting the stadium, the Camp Nou tour during the works is in the same district.
What to wear and bring
The FC Barcelona rink enforces its dress rules, and the Christmas rinks are outdoors in December evenings.
- Gloves are compulsory at the club rink and are sold, not lent. Bring your own.
- No shorts or short sleeves: you can be turned away at the door.
- Helmets are compulsory for under-12s at the club rink and recommended for beginners.
- Skate sizes for hire run from European 27 to 47; outside that, bring your own and pay €10 instead of €13.
- Children must be at least 4, and under-14s skate with an adult on the ice, up to four children per adult.
The four Christmas rinks
From late November until Three Kings’ Day, four seasonal rinks join the year-round one. The 2026 dates come out in November; these are last season’s.
Westfield La Maquinista, in Sant Andreu, has the largest natural-ice rink in Barcelona. Last season it opened from 10 am to 2 pm and 4 to 10 pm, until 11 pm on Fridays, Saturdays and the eve of holidays, at €12 for 30 minutes with skates.
L’Illa Diagonal put a 240 m² open-air rink in the Sant Joan de Déu gardens: €8 for about 25 minutes, tickets at the box office, closed on 25 December and 1 January.
Christmas at Port Vell has a 400 m² synthetic rink inside the waterfront fair, open 11 am to 11 pm, a few steps from the Christmas markets route.
Tibidabo has a round 235 m² rink in the park’s Plaça dels Somnis, for 50 people at a time. It comes with a park ticket, €39 for adults, or costs €5 to skate only; the Tibidabo guide covers the funicular up.
What you might not like
- Short sessions at the centre: 12 minutes at Port Vell is a photo, not a skate.
- The club rink is out west, at the far end of the L3 metro line from the old town.
- 2026 Christmas dates are not out yet, and holidays change opening hours; see the Christmas opening hours guide.
Getting to the rinks and staying safe
Every rink except Tibidabo is on the metro. A T-casual ticket, 10 rides for €13 in zone 1, covers the trips between rinks for less than single tickets at €2.90; the metro ticket guide compares the options. Port Vell and the Christmas markets draw crowds in December evenings, so keep phones and wallets zipped while you queue; the Barcelona safety guide covers the rest.
For the rest of the season, see Barcelona at Christmas, and for winter days out with children, Barcelona with kids.
Frequently asked questions about ice skating in Barcelona
Can you ice skate in Barcelona all year?
Yes, at one rink: the FC Barcelona ice rink at Carrer de Carles Ferrer i Salat 7, in Les Corts, a short ride from the Camp Nou. Tickets start at €13 with skate hire, or €10 with your own skates, and public slots run from 75 to 120 minutes.
Which Barcelona ice rinks have real ice?
Two. The FC Barcelona rink, open all year, and the Christmas rink at Westfield La Maquinista, the largest natural-ice rink in the city. The Port Vell, Tibidabo and L’Illa Diagonal rinks use synthetic or eco surfaces instead of real ice.
Do I need gloves to skate at the FC Barcelona rink?
Yes. Gloves are compulsory for every skater, and if you do not bring a pair you have to buy them there. Helmets are compulsory for under-12s, and you can be turned away in shorts or short sleeves.
What skate sizes can you hire in Barcelona?
The FC Barcelona rink hires European sizes 27 to 47. If your feet fall outside that range, bring your own skates, which also cuts the ticket from €13 to €10.
Is the Port Vell Christmas ice rink worth it?
For a quick spin inside the Christmas fair, yes; for real skating, no. Last season a 12-minute session cost €8.50 with skates on a 400 m² synthetic surface, which works out at €7.08 per 10 minutes, the most expensive rink in the city.
Real ice all year at the Barça rink; at Christmas, La Maquinista for an afternoon and Port Vell for a spin.
