If you are staying in the Gothic Quarter, your night pharmacy is 405 metres away. From Barceloneta it is 1.553 metres, from the Vila Olímpica 2.313, and if your flat happens to be beside the Sagrada Família, 66. Those four numbers all point at different doors, because Barcelona has 1.020 pharmacies and only seven stay open through the night. They do not rotate and they do not take turns: the municipal register calls them permanent pharmacies and they open every day of the year. Everything else shuts, including the 108 that run a 9:00 to 22:00 service daily.
Which pharmacies are open 24 hours in Barcelona? Seven: La Rambla 98, Carrer d’Aribau 62, Carrer d’Aragó 1, Provença 459, Passeig de Maragall 177, Rambla de Guipúscoa 67 and Riera Blanca 191. They open every day of the year and do not depend on any duty rota, so the list does not change from one night to the next.
Which one covers the area you are staying in
Straight-line distance from the centre of each area to its nearest 24-hour pharmacy. Worth checking on arrival rather than at 3am.
| Where you are | Nearest 24-hour pharmacy | Address | Distance |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gothic Quarter | Clapés Antoja | La Rambla 98 | 405 metres |
| El Raval | Clapés Antoja | La Rambla 98 | 441 metres |
| El Born | Clapés Antoja | La Rambla 98 | 874 metres |
| Sagrada Família | Laguna Ventosa | Provença 459 | 66 metres |
| Dreta de l’Eixample | Torres | Carrer d’Aribau 62 | 968 metres |
| Poble-sec | Garcia | Carrer d’Aragó 1 | 1.406 metres |
| Barceloneta | Clapés Antoja | La Rambla 98 | 1.553 metres |
| Gràcia | Laguna Ventosa | Provença 459 | 1.619 metres |
| Poblenou | Biosca Fernández | Rambla de Guipúscoa 67 | 1.983 metres |
| Vila Olímpica | Clapés Antoja | La Rambla 98 | 2.313 metres |
The pattern is clear enough: a single pharmacy, Farmàcia Clapés Antoja at La Rambla 98, covers the entire old town, from Barceloneta to the Vila Olímpica. If you are staying anywhere in Ciutat Vella, that is your address, and it is worth writing it down on arrival.
Getting there after the metro stops
On weeknights the metro does not run at that hour, which leaves the night bus or a taxi. Six of the seven pharmacies have a night bus stop within 120 metres.
Farmàcia Biosca Fernández is the best connected, with the N8 at 32 metres. Farmàcia Laguna Ventosa has the N0 and N1 at 69, Farmàcia Garcia the N0 at 76, Farmàcia Gómez-Guiu Hormigós the N13 at 77, Albert Llorens the N4, N1 and N6 at 109, and Farmàcia Torres has the most lines at hand, with the N7, N3, N8 and N23 at 111 metres.
The odd one out is Clapés Antoja, the Rambla one, with no night line within 300 metres. Its nearest stop is Plaça de Catalunya - Pelai, 489 metres away. How the night network runs is covered in the public transport guide, and if the evening is still going, late-night food covers the same hours. For walking across the city at that time, the safety guide sets out which streets stay busy.
If you find yourself needing one at 3am, the order that wastes least time is this.
- Check the list below, not a map app. Three addresses that some maps show as open all night are not on the municipal permanent list.
- Phone first if you are more than 2 kilometres away. Twenty-seven of the 73 neighbourhoods are, and at 5 km/h that is a 25-minute walk each way.
- Take the night bus rather than walking. Six of the seven have a stop within 120 metres of the door.
- If you are above Sarrià or in Nou Barris, take a taxi. The furthest neighbourhood is 5.515 metres from its nearest pharmacy.

One check worth making before you set off. Three addresses show up as open around the clock on some map apps and are not on the municipal permanent list: Passeig de Gràcia 90 and Avinguda Diagonal 197, both recorded with a 9:00 to 22:00 service, and Passeig de Sant Gervasi 53, on ordinary hours. The last of those has one of the most recently updated records and still reads the same.
If you only need the evening
Most problems are not 3am problems. The 108 pharmacies running 9:00 to 22:00 every day of the year are spread across 48 of the 73 neighbourhoods, so in two thirds of the city something is open at 21:00 on a Sunday.
By district the Eixample holds 25, Sarrià-Sant Gervasi 13, Sant Martí 11, with Sants-Montjuïc and Gràcia on 10 each, Nou Barris and Sant Andreu on 9, Ciutat Vella 8, les Corts 7 and Horta-Guinardó 6.
Which flips the earlier picture in a useful way: the five districts without a 24-hour pharmacy do have 9:00 to 22:00 ones, and Sarrià-Sant Gervasi has the second most of any district. Their gap is the small hours specifically, not the evening. For a first trip, the first-time visitor guide covers the rest of the practical ground.
How the city is covered, and where it is not
Across all 73 neighbourhoods the median distance to a 24-hour pharmacy is 1.630 metres, but 27 neighbourhoods sit more than 2 kilometres away. At a normal 5 km/h that median is a 20-minute walk, and the worst case is far longer.
One pharmacy carries an unusual share of the load. Farmàcia Albert Llorens, at Passeig de Maragall 177, is the closest for 30 of the 73 neighbourhoods, with a median of 2.208 metres and a maximum of 4.406 metres from Vallbona. No other one covers more than ten.
And five of the ten districts have none at all: Gràcia, les Corts, Nou Barris, Sant Andreu and Sarrià-Sant Gervasi. The furthest corner of the city is Vallvidrera, el Tibidabo i les Planes, 5.515 metres from Carrer d’Aragó 1. If you are hiking or staying up there, that is a taxi, not a walk.
Where each one is
The seven trace a diagonal from the Gothic Quarter to el Guinardó, with 7.844 metres between the far ends at Riera Blanca 191 in la Bordeta and Rambla de Guipúscoa 67 in Sant Martí de Provençals. The three in the Eixample, at Aribau 62, Aragó 1 and Provença 459, cover 24 of the 73 neighbourhoods between them.
The empty quarter is the north-west, from Sarrià up to Nou Barris, which is also where the five most distant neighbourhoods are: Vallbona at 4.406 metres, Ciutat Meridiana at 4.160, Sarrià at 3.931 and Sant Genís dels Agudells at 3.850.

Yes, and it is the best served spot in the city. Farmàcia Laguna Ventosa sits at Provença 459, about 66 metres from the centre of the Sagrada Família neighbourhood. It has the N0 and N1 night bus lines 69 metres away, so it works even once the metro has closed.

By night bus. Six of the seven have a stop within 120 metres: Biosca Fernández has the N8 at 32 metres, Laguna Ventosa the N0 and N1 at 69, and Torres the N7, N3, N8 and N23 at 111. The Rambla 98 one is the exception, with its nearest stop 489 metres away.
