Sants Just i Pastor has no ticket desk at all and Sant Pau del Camp is only seen inside on Sunday at 12:45, on a 10 € guided tour. Five churches within fifteen minutes’ walk of each other, and in three of them the difference between paying and not paying is the time on the clock.

The Pi is also the one church in the city that writes residents into its price list: “free entry for the faithful of the municipality of Barcelona”, on showing a Barcelona ID at the desk, for the whole of visiting hours and with no card or registration beforehand. That is looser than Park Güell’s residents’ scheme, which requires signing up, and more than the Sagrada Família offers, which has no local rate at all.
When you walk in without a ticket
The Cathedral charges for the cultural visit Monday to Friday from 9:30 to 18:30, with entry closing at 17:45; on Saturdays and the eves of religious holidays from 9:30 to 17:15, entry until 16:30; and on Sundays and holidays from 14:00 to 17:00. Masses sit outside that window: weekdays at 9:00 and 19:15 in the Blessed Sacrament chapel, and on Sunday at the high altar at 9:00, 10:30, 12:00 and 13:00, before the desk opens, and at 18:00 and 19:15 after it closes. The ticket is for the cultural visit, not for worship, so Sunday morning is the widest ticket-free window on the nave. The 10:00 weekday Mass is not held in July or August.
Santa Maria del Mar keeps the church open daily from 10:00 to 20:30 and charges for the visit Monday to Saturday 10:00 to 18:00 and Sunday 13:00 to 18:00, last entry 17:30; its own website states that outside those hours entry is free, and Mass is at 19:30, with a 12:00 Mass on Sunday. The Pi charges over the same hours, 10:00 to 18:00 and Sunday from 13:00, closes on 6 January, 12 May for Sant Pancraç and 25–26 December, and is free to enter outside visiting hours whenever the church is open; its Blessed Sacrament chapel is always open for prayer and Mass is at 19:00 in the Sang chapel, Sunday at 11:00. Sants Just i Pastor opens Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday 10:00 to 13:00 and 18:00 to 21:00, and Tuesday, Wednesday and Sunday 10:00 to 13:00, run by the Sant’Egidio Community, with evening prayer at 20:00 and Sunday Mass at 11:00. What the paid visit actually includes
At the Cathedral the ticket opens six spaces: the church and the Gothic cloister of the 14th and 15th centuries, with its thirteen geese and the mid-15th-century fountain where the egg dances at Corpus Christi; the rooftops, reached by lift through the Holy Innocents chapel beside the Sant Iu door, looking onto the two bell towers, the side spires and the lantern topped by the Holy Cross; the choir begun in 1390 with the stalls of the Order of the Golden Fleece; the chapter house, with an 11th-century font and the Pietà of Canon Desplà painted by Bartolomé Bermejo in 1490; the chapel of the Holy Christ of Lepanto, built by Arnau Bargués in 1407; and the Jewish memory display. Allow two hours if you do all six, with the rest of the Gothic Quarter waiting outside.
At Santa Maria del Mar the 8 € covers the naves, the galleries museum, the crypt, the towers and the several rooftop levels, and the guided tours run Thursday to Sunday at 11:30 in Catalan, 12:45 in Spanish, 14:00 and 15:00 in English, 16:15 in Spanish or Catalan and 17:30 in Catalan, the last one dropped on the final Sunday of each month because of baptisms. At the Pi the ticket takes in the basilica, the crypt, the treasury museum of Catalan silverwork, the garden and the bell tower, open to the public for the first time, with climbs Monday to Saturday at 11:00, 12:30, 14:00, 15:30 and 16:45 and Sunday at 13:45, 15:30 and 16:45. At Sant Pau del Camp the Sunday tour is the only way into the 12th-century Romanesque cloister with an explanation, and it fits a Sunday morning with Sant Antoni market five minutes away.
Seeing all five in one day, in the right order
The five are all in Ciutat Vella and none is more than fifteen minutes’ walk from another, so the order is set by the clock rather than the map. The timetable that fits them all on a weekday:
- 9:30, Cathedral, Pla de la Seu: ticket desk opens, two hours for the six spaces, out by 11:30.
- 12:30, Santa Maria del Pi, Plaça del Pi 7: the bell-tower climb, 4 € on top of the 8 € ticket, or free with a Barcelona ID.
